Climatic Change
Scientific research agrees that climatic change is a reality. This was the conclusion of the United Nation's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC):
"The earth's climate is changing for causes, partly, attributable to human activity... these changes are affecting natural systems and will end up affecting humans, reducing greenhouse gas emissions would help to delay and reduce the effects of climate change."
(3rd Report of International Panel of Climate Change, United Nations, 2001)
The atmosphere is made up of gases that filter out solar radiations and keeps the earth's temperature at a suitable level. This phenomenon that is needed to sustain life is known as the "Greenhouse Effect". During the pre-industrial age, the concentration of the greenhouse gases (GG) in the atmosphere remained at a stable level, around 260 ppm (parts per million), but it then steadily increased until it reached 368 ppm in the year 2000. Human activity, particularly the growing consumption of fossil fuels, has helped to alter this delicate natural balance, leading to global warming and the resulting climate change.
According to the IPCC conclusions, the earth's average temperature will possibly increase by between 4º C and 6º C by the end of the 21 st century. This change will result in a major risk for health and human safety. Its many effects include the sea level rising, more frequent and more intense extreme weather and changes to the ecosystems and hydric resources. The most affected population will be those located in costal zones and the greatest impact will be in tropical zones and developing countries.
It should be recalled that the majority of the world's population lives precisely in those areas.
Ekopass helps to limit and reduce the greenhouse gas emissions to bridge the effects of climate change.
